Dice & Draw FAQ

Dice & Draw provides free random pickers: dice, numbers, names, teams, coin flips, and a decision wheel. Every draw happens in your browser and nothing you paste is uploaded.

How random are the results?

Draws use the browser's cryptographic random number generator through the Web Crypto API, which is designed to be unpredictable. Values are also rejected and redrawn when they would fall in the biased tail of the range, so every outcome in the range is equally likely rather than approximately so.

Can I use this for a lottery or gambling?

No. Regulated prize draws, lotteries, and gambling require certified, independently audited random number generation with a verifiable record of each draw. These tools keep no record at all. They are intended for games, classrooms, team formation, and informal group decisions.

Does a run of heads mean tails is due?

No. Each flip is independent and carries no memory of previous flips. The expectation of an even split applies to long runs, not to the next outcome. Streaks appear regularly in genuinely random sequences — their absence would be the surprising result.

Why does rolling several dice behave differently from one large die?

Adding several dice concentrates results near the middle of the range, because there are many more combinations that produce a middling total than an extreme one. Rolling 3d6 clusters around ten and eleven, while a single eighteen-sided die is flat across its whole range even though the totals overlap.

Are the names and lists I paste uploaded?

No. Lists are read from the page in your browser, used for the draw, and discarded when you close or reload the tab. Nothing is transmitted to a server, so names of students, colleagues, or event guests never leave your device.

How does the team splitter keep groups even?

It shuffles the whole list first, then deals people out one at a time in rotation. That removes any correlation with the original order and keeps group sizes within one person of each other when the count does not divide evenly. Balanced size is not balanced ability — adjust openly for competitive settings.

Is every slice of the decision wheel equally likely?

Yes. Each option receives exactly one equal slice, so the chance of any option is one divided by the number of options. Only add options you would genuinely accept; a wheel containing a choice you would reject just produces a rerun.

Can I reproduce a previous draw?

No. Nothing is stored and no seed is exposed, so every sequence is independent. Refreshing the page starts an entirely fresh sequence. If you need an auditable record, write the result down as you go.
